A Missionary's Corner
April is upon us and Spring is officially here. I think everyone is looking forward to warmer weather and longer evenings. But April also brings many other things to us as well. Of course, Easter is the most important thing on the April calendar. The death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is the most crucial happening in history and the central event of our Christian faith. I encourage you to take advantage of all the opportunities to observe this special time. Our churches offer many different services to remember, reflect and worship. Passion Week services will be held at Elkin Valley Baptist Church on Monday thru Friday (April 14-18) at 12 noon. Many of our churches will have Maundy Thursday Services, Good Friday Services and Easter Sunrise Services. There will be multiple chances to focus on the great gift of our Lord Jesus that week and I hope you will take part in them. With Easter we also focus on the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. This offering supports our home mission work through the North American Mission Board. The national goal is 78 million dollars. It is a large amount but if every church helps it can be reached and surpassed. I hope you plan to take part. Let’s support our mission work in North America. April is also the month for the Food Roundup for our Baptist Children’s Home. This collection is vital to sustaining the work of Baptist Children’s Home. It, of course, meets a great physical need. But it also shows the love of Jesus expressed through his people. I hope all our churches participate. Our associational office will serve as a drop off point for donations. Bring your gifts by the office and we will deliver them to our Baptist Children’s Home. If you have questions call the office or you can find more information at www.baptistchildrenhomes.org. In addition, April provides an opportunity to prepare to be involved in mission work. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church is hosting a Disaster Relief Training by our Baptists on Mission on April 26 beginning at 8:30am. Cost is $40. With the recent disasters our own state has experienced I trust we all see the value of this great ministry. It is a great place for all believers to be on mission. For more information or to register you can go to www.baptistsonmission.org. April is also the time for our Spring semi-annual meeting. We thank the Cool Springs Baptist Church for hosting our gathering as well as providing the meal. The meal begins at 6:00pm and the meeting begins at 7:00pm. The program will include a report from our Toy Store as well as our other ministries. Luke Lunceford will preach our message. Luke is the North Carolina Baptist Mission Catalyst for our region (Region 7). We look forward to hearing from him. I hope all our churches will be represented. This is an important time for us to connect with one another as fellow believers, celebrate what God is doing and cast a vision for the future. God is at work in our association of churches. Let us all come together in April to celebrate that! Johnny ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
